Bamihap: Noodle snack. The main ingredients of this snack come all the way from Indonesia. At the beginning of the 20th century Indonesia was a Dutch Colony and their menu slowly made their way to the Netherlands. Just after World War II Indonesia became independent and many returned back to the Netherlands. Unfamiliar with the Dutch kitchen they introduced the Indonesian kitchen in the Netherlands where it grew in popularity. As snacks were booming in the 1950’s, and Indonesian dishes, the bamihap was introduced. It was a great way to use ‘left overs’ of bami dishes. First the snacks were formed in a ball. The only problem with that was that during cooking in the deep fryer the middle of these balls was still cold. Therefore, they started experimenting in the 1960’s with the shape of the snacks. It was discovered that a square was the best shape to ensure they are piping hot throughout.

Our bamihappen are made with egg noodles, stir-fry vegetables, chicken, with or without bacon and flavoured with unique Indonesian inspired spices. The finish is the coating of breadcrumbs to give it that crispy crunch.
