The 'kroket' (beef croquette) is a wholesome combination of slow cooked beef brisket, and shredded when cooked, in a creamy sauce by colour. The sauce is made with the stock from the beef brisket and is seasoned with subtle spices. The uniquely tasty mixture of shredded beef and the sauce is set to rest overnight in the fridge and formed in croquettes the following morning.
The next step in the process is to roll the kroket in eggs and breadcrumbs in preparation for the final phase.
To give them that unique golden crispy coating we deep-fry them in sunflower oil to finish them.........
And there you have it, a snack that was first introduced by the 'Batavieren' who lived in the Netherlands around 200 years BC. Although the way we know it now dates back to the start of the war between Spain and the Netherlands in 1568 (80-jarige oorlog)
At The Dutch Snacks Company we make these traditional snacks from responsibly sourced products and, where possible, from local sources.
It is definitely a taste of the Netherlands not to be missed and best consumed with a little dip of mustard in a bun or on its own.
